Did you know when parents are involved in their children’s schooling, students show higher academic achievement, school engagement, and motivation, according to a 2019 American Physolocical Association Review?

I decided to take my doctoral research, The Role of African American Parents In Literacy Success, on the road to the National Parents As Teacher Conference in St. Louis some years ago. As a conference speaker I was able to educate parents and educators on how to help their school-age children to read.

It was there in a ballroom of 200+ parents that I realized the necessity for parents to be trained on how children learn to read, what motivates children of all ages to read, and how parents' understanding of the process of reading is so critical to the success of their students from the elementary to the high school level.

Fast forward to the present. I continue to support parents through workshops, family consulation, and digital courses.
