My Story:
From School

School Owner and Education Consultant
Shauntelle Modeste, M.Ed. Reading Specialist and Texas Mother Of The Year Finalist
Hello Families!
Shauntelle Dukes Modeste has always had a heart for children's success even before her teaching career began in 2000. She earned her Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education and Master's in Reading Education from the University of Central Arkansas.
At a very early age she desired to make an impact in the world through teaching and improving the lives of others through education. Modeste eventually moved to Texas and continued educating deserving students at the elementary level.
Her former principal promoted her to a leadership role as the school's Literacy Coach and Reading Specialist. In this role she had the wonderful opportunity to work alongside and train other great teachers in the area of reading and literacy as well as work with small group struggling readers daily.
After her daughter Madelyn Grace started formal school she realized she wanted to help bright children like her receive a more personalized, and rigorous education and began a tutoring business and later a homeschool for her daughter and other children like Madelyn Grace who are intellectually curious, intelligent, and bright children locally.
She began to homeschool at the height of the pandemic and heard a calling from God to extend supporting other homeschool students virtually.
As a result, Ahead Of The Curve Homeschool Academy opened its virtual doors in the fall of 2021. As a former public school teacher-turned homeschool mom-and now school founder and education consultant I continue to serve students.
Mrs. Modeste's daughter's math struggle in public school 5 years ago raised alarm bells for her. She prayed for a learning environment that would support her God given learning potential.
Instead of accepting the school's solution (to her temporary math problems) with special education services, God revealed a different plan. As a result, Shauntelle resigned as a reading specialist to create a fulfilling home learning program that centers her daughter's intellect, spiritual, and academic needs that she deserved.
Her daughter Madelyn Grace has found confidence in math, loves reading and has authored TWO books herself at the age of 10!
Like Madelyn, Mrs. Modeste's students successfully transformed from struggling and average students to high achieving A+ students.
After so many conversations with other parents, she realized that they too desired a promising education that showcased their children's strengths and personal capabilities.
These parent interactions has motivated Mrs. Modeste to provide reading coaching programs, family consultation, and reading workshop for parents as well as students with the services provided at Ahead Of The Curve Academy.

"After researching for a better online placement program for my son, I came across a social media post for Ahead of the Curve Homeschool Academy and reached out for more information. Upon speaking with the Founder and Director, I knew I found the place for my son to continue his homeschool journey based on the knowledge, skill set, curriculum overview, and professional and personal touch of Ms. Modeste. We had tried a few other online programs and none were up to the standard, feel, nor knew how to relate to homeschooled students like Ms. Modeste. The teaching services are delivered in such a personal and relatable way and tailored to each student making all the difference in their confidence as students and what they are able to produce in their work efforts. What my son retained and learned he could share with others and it showed he truly believed in his learning skills and he knew not just memorized materials. The curriculum for the middle school program was above grade and allowed each student to reach their own potential rather than be pushed or held back because of ‘teaching to the test’ or other students’ abilities. The caliber of lessons, assignments, and supplemental reinforcements were enhancements to the lessons. As a homeschool parent, you want to partner with instructors who align with your teaching philosophy and Ms. Modeste is the epitome of professionalism, brilliant at her delivery, and communication was always direct and timely. After attending Ahead of the Curve Academy, my son’s confidence in presenting information he researched and learned increased and improved greatly. He now speaks up more and volunteers to lead in youth group discussions. His writing is above grade level as indicated by his recent end-of-the-year evaluations and testing. Ahead of the Curve Academy was a direct impact on increasing and improving his writing caliber, ability, and confidence. "
